Elizabeth Meadow was 12 when she stitched this sampler. She
was one of the earliest students of renowned English teacher, Judith Hayle, and
gave tribute to her teacher in her sampler. This licensed reproduction is from
the original sampler in the collection of the Museum of London, and royalties
are paid to the museum for all sales of this chart. Elizabeth used a variety of stitches, including variations of several of them. Stitches include Reversible Cross, Alternating Double Back, Montenegrin, Algerian Eye, Satin, Double Running and Cross. Most of the stitches are reversible, but the sampler itself is not because of the way Elizabeth ended a number of her threads. The original was stitched in silk on uneven weave linen that varied from 34 to 37 threads/inch. Extensive stitch diagrams for all stitches and traveling patterns are included in the chart. All charting is done with each square equal one thread due to the odd-numbered spacing used throughout, and a number of 2x3, 3x2, and 1x2 stitches in the piece. Best suited for Intermediate stitchers. Stitched with Soie d'Alger silk on 32 ct Graziano Sienna linen (cream), final dimensions after hemstitching: 6" w x 22-1/4" h This choice of linen most closely matches the original linen in look and color, and final dimension is only 1/2" wider and 3/4" longer than the original sampler. Linen should be cut so work is done selvage to selvage (as the original was stitched). DMC colors are also provided. | |

Berrie Pynboxe A design collaboration from Historic Stitches, Liberty Hill and Sew & Sew Finishing. A round box from Liberty Hill, hand-painted in a PA folk art style, holds a wool pincushion designed by Sew & Sew Finishing. A cross stitched potted strawberry motif taken from an antique sampler in the collection of Historic Stitches resides underneath the box lid. The pincushion, which is ornamented with a By Jupiter strawberry charm, is removable and can be taken out of the box while in use, then replaced when finished, and the lid put on for safekeeping of your needles and pins. Size of the box is approximately 4 inches in diameter and 2 inches tall. Materials used are 28 count La-D-Da Brown hand-dyed linen from R&R Reproductions; DMC and Gentle Art Sampler Threads cotton floss; Weeks Dye Works hand-dyed wool, color Kohl, and WDW hand-dyed perle cotton number 5, color Raspberry. The Berrie Pynboxe set includes the hand-painted box, strawberry charm, chart and stitching instructions for the strawberry motif, and complete finishing instructions for the pincushion. Linen, wool, and floss are not included.

Holiday Thread Winders New for autumn 2007, this Liberty Hill exclusive includes 4 notched thread winders, each painted with a different Christmas themed motif on the front and in a dark green color with small white stars on the back. The box is painted on the sides in a dark red color with small white stars and has a black interior. Each thread winder measures approximately 3 inches long by 1.5 inches wide. The box to hold the four threadwinders measures approximately 2.25 by 2 inches and is approximately 2 inches tall. Orders may be placed now for the Holiday Thread Winders, but shipping will begin in late November. | |

New: Quaker Pynkeepe Box New for 2007 is a hexagon-shaped box which holds a small round pinkeep to store your pins. Included with the Quaker Pynkeepe Box, which is painted by Liberty Hill, is a chart with finishing instructions to create a round pinkeep which fits inside the hexagon box. The motif for the front of the pinkeep and the crown on the pinkeep back are taken from an antique sampler in the Historic Stitches collection. The Quaker Pynkeepe Box measures approximately 3.75 inches across at the widest point and is approximately 2 inches tall. The pinkeep measures appoximately 3 inches in diameter and is stitched on 40 count Iced Cappucino linen from R&R Reproductions using Crescent Colours hand-dyed cotton floss.
