A stitcher’s pocket designed simply to make you smile. The pocket is fitted with a needle keep, Hare Pyns keep, scissors sheath and fob, pyn cushion, and a Hare rule and Hare thread palette.

Stylized tulips and ripples of Florentine embroidery flourish and profiles of hares peak out from unexpected places to delight the stitcher.  The inside front of the pocket is fitted with a ‘hare pyn’ keep situated between fanciful tulips. A needle keep is fastened to the inside front of the pocket.  Also accompanying the pocket are a pyn cushion to match the lining fabric, a stitched scissors sheath, and a hare shaped rule and a silk palette, custom made from wood – (species may vary from cherry to birch or other suitable woods).  The pocket measures 5” wide x 6” high when closed and 13” long when opened flat.  The pocket is solidly stitched on 30 count natural linen with silks in rich tones of flame reds, meadow greens, blue greens and taupes.  It is finished by hand with a grosgrain ribbon edging and a depression-era clear pressed glass button (button shapes will vary for each kit), side gussets and a pocket divider for housing all of your favorite tools.

Class time will emphasize hand finishing instruction.

Long Pocket - £165.00

Queen Elizabeth Style

Although the long pocket was popular in the 18th century, it is often referred to as a Queen Elizabeth style pocket.  The long pockets were typically knitted or netted, but some were made of fabric.  This embroidered version of the long pocket features a silk bag wrapped with a linen band stitched in 18th century English style embroidery.  The pocket is accessed through an opening in the middle back.  A brass ring slides over the opening to secure the contents.  Stitched accessories are attached to a ribbon suspended inside the pocket from the brass cap.  The ribbon can be pulled out to easily remove the accessories.  The embroidery is worked in stitches popular of the period, including tent stitch, long and short stitch, gobelin stitch, broad chain stitch, stem stitch, Peruvian loop stitch and knots.  The edges of the linen are finished with a variation of a 3-sided edging stitch.  The pocket is easily finished with fine hand sewing.  The pocket is topped with an embossed brass cap and silk cording and measures approx. 14” long x 3.5”wide.

Kit includes linen, 14 colors of silk floss, silk Bella, silk Serica, silk lining, grosgrain ribbon, embossed brass cap, brass ring, brass drops and tapestry needle.
